The SD Ruby Team
These are the people who make SD Ruby happen.
I'm a web designer and developer with a passion for making web apps that have great user experience.
In addition to running SD Ruby, I've organized several other technology events in San Diego, including the first three BarCamps, biweekly Jelly meetups, and Ignite San Diego.
Co-Organizer & Chief Technical Officer
Rob loves programming languages and Ruby is the first language he
found that loved him back. While finishing his CS degree, Rob snuck
Ruby into the software validation and tools group of a Johnson and
Johnson company. He learned Rails while riding back and forth on a
train between his home in San Diego, CA and work in Irvine, CA. He
joined Mingle LLC. in early 2006 and has been working professionally
with Rails ever since. In the fall of 2007, he struck out on his own,
founded Notch8 and knows that freelancing really suites him. He
enjoyed the heck out of speaking at RailsConf07, even though he lost
his voice the day of his talk. Recently he's been busy helping
clients with projects varying from mobile location services to a
biotech online marketplace. He is regularly found at SDRuby meetings
and anywhere else he can talk tech and programming.
Co-Organizer & Hackfest Host
I come from a mainly C, Perl background and adopted PHP in 2004 for my web app development. I built Musolist in 2005 which runs with zero maintenance to this day. I also created Ekklesia 360 CMS which is a web service content management system optimized for Churches, Non-profits and commercial use. We built Monk Development, Inc. with the vision of "redeeming culture for the good of all using technology". I also love playing the bass and am in a band called Dropjoy.
I build web applications using Ruby, currently working on a knowledge engine and community for students of jazz: http://jazzity.com/, among other open source and client projects.
When I'm not writing software, I also enjoy traveling, playing tennis, playing jazz piano, and thinking about economics.
